Respiring

This project involves questioning the relationship between the body’s interior and exterior and between permanency and decay. Because of my personal illnesses and childhood experiences with death, the mysterious workings of the body’s organs deeply influence my process of artmaking. I began by casting animal offal and raw meat, including pig and cow stomachs and tongues to construct objects that resemble human body parts. I utilized natural latex to create translucent skin that suggests communication between the interior and exterior body, also blended latex with Chinese herbal medicine which provides the aroma of cure and therapy.
